CHARACTER
NAME: Augustus
CANON: Bittersweet Candy Bowl
CANON POINT: Page 9 of Chapter 105: Witch Hunt
AGE: 18
BACKGROUND: Augustus' life has never been a happy one. When he was ten he was already a gifted shoplifter. His parents were neglectful drunks who wouldn't go shopping for groceries. Only for more alcohol. It was one night when he went to the store to steal milk when he met Alejandro, Toby, and Melanie. Even when he was little Augustus could tell Alejandro was mean but he wanted friends and a place to escape to. Augustus's house life was shown to be quite awful given he had to turn his mother over once so he wouldn't drown on her own vomit. During his early years he became close to Melanie and looked forward to seeing her. He would hang out with her on the college campus. Melanie would go there to escape due to Alejandro being banned from the main campus.

The next few years Augustus spent with Alejandro's gang shoplifting, organizing, and worrying about Melanie. When he was thirteen he started to develop his own sense of style. Melanie decided he needed a face piercing to complete his new look. She took him home and performed the piercing herself. This led to them sleeping together for the first time and Augustus losing his virginity. It was after they slept together that Augustus witnessed just how broken Melanie was. Augustus was sure Alejandro would kill then and Melanie responded saying they should run away together if she could secure a scholarship to a college and she'd take Augustus with her.

For the next three years they remained a secret couple on the side until he was a sophomore in high school and she a senior. Any plans they had to be together were crushed when Toby saw them together. He told Alejandro Melanie was cheating on him. This lead to Augustus walking in on Alejandro choking Melanie while demanding to know who she was seeing. Augustus tried to break them up but Melanie lashed out with her claws, giving him his scar over his right eye. Augustus passed out and when he came to, it was just him and Alejandro. Alejandro had no idea Augustus was the other man. Melanie also gave Alejandro a scar over his left eye before she had to be taken to the hospital by Toby.

Augustus was able to track down which hospital Melanie was in. There they said their goodbyes as Melanie was going off to live with her Grandmother and was finally free. This left Augustus stuck stealing and doing the errands Alejandro wants him to do. Until Junior year when Alejandro had a new chore for him to do.

Augustus's Junior year is when the feline's mission began. His goal was to observe Lucy and Mike's group of friends to find weak points within the group for a revenge plot of Alejandro's for a run-in they had with the gang leader in middle school. Augustus did this but during his observations he fell in love with one of the members of the group, Daisy.

He approached Daisy and began to drop cryptic hints of her being held back by her friends and would confess to wanting to be her friend. The rest of the group disliked Augustus due to quips he would make about another Junior they had befriended, Tess. Daisy, not heeding the warnings of her friends, began spending time with Augustus. The two grew close and Augustus tried to get her to admit she liked him, however she couldn't due to feelings she had for Mike.

Augustus began to push Daisy to try and steal Mike away from his long-distance girlfriend and after so long and Daisy's own lack of confidence getting to her, she agreed. He helped her to become more forward. Thanks to a set of circumstances with Mike, he asked her to go to the fair with him as friends. They went together and Augustus followed. He watched Daisy throw herself at Mike and be shot down, just as he planned. He went to her and confessed it was his plan and he knew Mike would never love her 'true' self. He told her she wanted this kind of attention as he backed her to a wall and tried to kiss her.

Daisy was about to give in when Abbey, another cat who liked Daisy, stopped him. Augustus taunted and poked at Abbey about his father, who Augustus had discovered was abusive and went to jail for almost killing Abbey's mother in a rage. Abbey hit Augustus and Augustus taunted him about being just like his daddy. This broke Abbey down and Augustus laughed as he drank it in. During his talking, he had said 'green eyes' when referring to Mike, something Alejandro had done during their confrontation in middle school. Daisy recognized this and slapped Augustus for mocking Abbey. She then told him it was over and that she understood. Augustus tried to convince her she was mistaken but she told him to leave, and he did.

It was a little later that Augustus went to meet up with a dog and Alejandro. He reported he had failed to get Daisy to like him, which was his attempt to save her from the coming plan. Having done so, Alejandro told him to get over it and to just use her as the tool and opportunity she would be. Augustus gave up on Daisy that day and moved forward.

It was several months later when he made his next move. During that time, Mike and Lucy had a falling out, which left Lucy emotionally vulnerable. Augustus approached her on her birthday but Lucy wasn't having it. She told him to fuck off and though Augustus pretended to be angry he smirked once she was gone and was happy that he finally had a challenge. It wasn't long after that Lucy began to hang out with Augustus and confide in him when she couldn't find herself able to with her friends.

One day Lucy did try to hang out with Augustus after school, though it didn't go well. He found her at his locker after getting out of class and his day was already not going well. She tried to force her way onto the bus to go home with him but thanks to another rude kid bumping her and Augustus having none of it, he told the bus driver she was trying to get on the wrong bus. This wasn't something easy for Augustus to do. He didn't want Lucy seeing the kind of family or conditions he lived in, so he pushed her away. Even though she might had been the first one ever to want to go to his home after school. Just like a real friend would.

It was in December that Augustus was at the library when Lucy and Mike came in to do a project for a class. He told them to wipe their feet, which upset Mike due to Lucy spending time with Augustus. Augustus approached Lucy when Mike left to grab books and mocked her about being tied to him. They spoke and Lucy asked him how he dealt with being rejected by Daisy and her wanting nothing to do with him. She expressed that she was ready to just give up on life because of Mike's treatment of her. Augustus grew angry at that and asked her if she had friends, a family, and a good home in a good neighborhood. He told her that if she was willing to give it all up over a boy that she was useless and pathetic. Feeling sympathetic, however, he then told her that as long as Daisy was happy and that she was smiling, he could live. He left with a snarky comment toward Mike when the boy returned and clearly was not pleased with Augustus being there.

It was then on New Years when Augustus found Lucy on top of the school building. He thought she was going to jump and rushed up to stop her. She said she wasn't going to jump and laughed, which Augustus didn't appreciate and told her to get down. Lucy asked him why everyone said they knew what was better for her than she did. Hearing this, and clearly being shocked by it, he surrendered and told her he would wait for her outside the school. And wait he did. It was a few days into the new school year after the incident when Lucy left Roseville High school. What only Augustus knows is it was because Lucy tried to kill herself. Augustus was there when she jumped off the roof of a building but the fall didn't kill her. He told her she was stupid for doing it and called 9-1-1, saving her life. That would be the last time Augustus would see her for some time.

During the time Lucy was gone, Augustus approached Daisy. He tried to talk to her, to check to make sure she was okay. She was instantly terrified of him and wanted nothing to do with him. In the end she told Augustus he needed someone to talk to, to get help, and she couldn't be that person. Augustus left and hasn't spoken to Daisy since.

Lucy was gone for some months before one day she returned. Augustus was sitting outside in his usual spot when Lucy approached him. They were both happy to see each other even though Augustus was a super senior due to him skipping school too often to graduate. Lucy asked him to come to her house after school that day and he agreed.

When they reached Lucy's home, her family had been worried about her. Apparently Jordan, her older brother, was meant to walk her home. She told her family Augustus was the one who saved her and told them about his home life. This lead to Lucy's family inviting him to stay with them until he graduated. Augustus agreed. For once he had a full bed, home cooked meals, and new clothes. He had something close to a real family. He started to help Jordan study for the SATs and is doing so himself. On Halloween that year, he was chosen to go with Lucy for trick or treating with her friends. It is during their trick or treating, on page nine of chapter 150 I will be taking Augustus from. He saw Daisy across the street with Mike and both were avoiding Lucy due to Augustus' presence. Much to Lucy's joy and Augustus' regret.

PERSONALITY:

Augustus is a layered character. Everything he does is calculated and carefully done. He rushes almost nothing and has a biting wit. He isn't simply the sadist or evil villain he seems to be. He has a complex understanding of himself and others due to his past. He has felt the loss of love, the growing hatred of others more fortunate than him, developed specific pet peeves due to his life and a shockingly harsh outlook on morality. It all accumulates into just who Augustus is today.

On the outer most level, Augustus appears to be a critical cynic and a bit of a sadist. He is harsh to almost all of those around him and isn't against telling people just what he thinks of them. He pressed and pokes for buttons and when he finds them, he makes sure to abuse them. He gains a certain satisfaction to being the dominant one in any conversation. He enjoys being in control and rendering others weak and vulnerable with words alone. On the surface he hardly seems guilty for these actions.

The Siamese is a calculating individual. He observes, takes notes, and never does anything without careful consideration. He weighs risk and reward and does his best to only approach people at the most opportune moments. Augustus learned this behavior from his parents and Alejandro. His skills have only sharpened in his eighteen years of life. Augustus's process is often slow but it is how he works and he sees nothing wrong with it. Augustus most definitely believes in the principle of brains over brawn.

Augustus does have a softer side. This is most seen in his relationship with Daisy. He truly did want to be with her and save her from the coming storm that would surround her friends. He fell in love with her and saw things in her that only one other person did. To him, she was smart, independent, beautiful, and she had limitless potential if she could get passed her self-esteem. He was attracted to just how different she was from the others in the school. He didn't enjoy setting her up to fail with Mike but he was sure it was the right thing to do to get her to come to him. He wanted to show her how to become her real self as he saw her. In truth, that vision of her could have been misguided from his experience with Melanie. He wanted a forward, upfront Daisy who was comfortable in her skin and more flirtatious. In the end, he lost her. Instead of becoming angry or wanting to hurt her, he accepted it.

Which brings up Lucy. He was not pleased with her when she admitted she was going to give up. This brings up the point that Augustus hates it when people take what they have for granted. He, being someone who has very little, greatly dislikes it when others who have more than him think their smaller problems are world shattering. He isn't against calling people out who do this and then calling them pathetic or worthless for doing so. In truth, part of him pities them but his anger comes first. He can empathize with some of these things, as he did with Lucy, but overall he hates it. Which is possibly why he has such a hatred/jealousy toward Abbey. Not only did Abbey get with Daisy, but he also escaped his own hostile home environment and was taken into a kind and loving foster family. Yes, Abbey had to lose both his parents for this to happen, but for someone like Augustus, it might be a subconscious jealousy for someone able to escape a very similar situation to the one he is trapped in and has resigned to always being trapped in. Escaping from his life isn't something Augustus seems preoccupied with. He lives with it and continues to live, though what his life goals are or even if he has them is unknown.

Augustus also hates people who bump, shove, or hit others without any reason. This is seen when he is bumped after class and when another student knocks Lucy out of their way. Callous physical harm angers him greatly though he never seems to speak out against it. He simply wears his anger and disgust on his face but is resigned to leaving it alone rather than speaking out. This behavior could also be a product of his home life as well as his time in Alejandro's gang since Alejandro was prone to violent temper tantrums.

Augustus uses none of this to excuse his own action. Actions are to be judged by themselves according to him. A bad past does not and should not excuse harmful or bad actions in his mind. He doesn't use anything in his life as a crutch and expects others to do the same. He holds himself to the same standard, which creates an interesting dilemma. He knows what he does is wrong yet necessary for survival. As he holds himself accountable, he must feel guilt for what he does yet he continues to view it as necessary.

Overall, Augustus is quite layered. His outside seems cold, callous, and slightly sadistic. He enjoys tearing people down when he learns their emotional weaknesses and isn't one to hold his verbal punches. Augustus is hardened by a rough past but doesn't use it as an excuse for anything he does. Deep down, he is softer than he sometimes appears. He feels things as a normal person would. He also can be emotionally hurt but he hates to show it and will deny it even if it comes through. In the end, he is a kid from the wrong side of the tracks who does everything he can to survive, despite the guilt of it later.

POWERS/ABILITIES:Augustus has no extra-ordinary abilities. His best abilities come from his experience reading people. He is talented with watching a person for a time and learning what makes them tick from it. He is good at picking up on small changes of expression or body language and reads it accordingly. He isn't perfect in the art and may overlook other aspects of a person due to his own pessimistic outlook on most people but it does not happen often. Part of this is that he is slow to make inferences. He doesn't judge off of one instance or a handful. He takes his time to find out all he can about someone and systematically attempts to map out as much of their personality as possible.

Augustus is also shown to incredibly smart. Several people comment on his possibly genius level academics, memorization skills, strategic abilities, and amazing math skills. He is studying for the SATs but has been shown to enjoy the experience more than stress, showing he can study hard and retain large amounts of information.

Augustus is also skilled at shoplifting and stealing things. He is shown to be able to walk into stores and walk out, seemingly empty handed but holding large amounts of food and candy in his jacket. He knows how to appear inconspicuous and move without drawing attention to himself, often using other customers as distractions.

Of course, Augustus reading people will be with mun permission and it will be discussed with the muns about just how much he can read and discover about other characters.

When Augustus arrived in Nautilus, he was a cynical and guarded person. He didn't open up to others easily if at all and originally planned on aligning himself with the strongest Benders in order to have power through his connections. He was looking at the city and its residents as merely tools he could use to get along in the city. Making friends was not on his list nor even a conceivable option in the beginning. To him, he was lost in a city of freaks with super powers, magic, and worlds he couldn't identify with. It was as if he was the only normal one in a world of insanity.

He also viewed himself as a terrible person. He had done things to people, used and hurt them. He still was helping a potentially psychotic man with his plans for revenge on people who had simply stood up to him. Due to this past and present, he was sure he was not a good person. He told many people he was terrible yet they saw something he couldn't.

However, with Nautilus all that changed.

Gaining Power

Back home, he was trapped by circumstances far beyond his control. He has surrendered to a fate of sadness and loneliness. One he was sure would cause him to die early and most likely painfully.

Then he learned how to Bend. After working through his mental blocks with Bending, Augustus was given his first taste of real power. Being able to instill his Will upon the world and create things gave him a feeling of pride and power he had never had before. This gave him a taste of true freedom in the city. At first he focused on simple bending with making things and food. He still branched out and let others make thing for him; such as when he let the Fairies make the furniture he still uses in his home today.

Then came Aang, Monk Gyatso, Rex Salazar and the Halloween Monster event.

Aang and Monk Gyatso taught Augustus his first new power; Airbending. Augustus did come up with the idea of training but both Aang and Monk Gyatso gave Augustus something he never had before; mentorship. Aang and Monk Gyatso taught Augustus the art of Airbending as well as the spiritual calm and traditions that came with it. This gave Augustus a clarity of mind and guidance he didn't realize he needed and has given him focus for the future.

Rex was a different kind of teacher. Rex was someone who offered him training in contested Bending. Rex's experience and knowledge were things Augustus hoped to learn from and possibly use in the future. However, as they trained Augustus was beginning to warm up to Rex. Their friendship ended quickly with the Halloween event and later Rex returning to sleep. Though he wasn't as hurt as others were, he understands how they would miss Rex so desperately.

The Halloween Event turned Augustus into what he always thought he would become; a monster. He was a soulless monster that saw pain and suffering as art and enjoyed inflicting it on people. He manipulated the bodies of monsters and residents of the city alike. He attempted to get close to them for the sake of his own visions of art and beauty, not caring about how they felt. He completely alienated Knuckles and left his relationship with Rex on shaky ground. Augustus also killed several of the fairies and used their bones to craft a birdcage he still has. It serves as a reminder for him how far he could go and ground he doesn't want to return to.

Yet the temptation of the power of Vicissitude was too great for him to abandon. It didn't help that during the event his Vampiric self knew he would disappear and left a book of his knowledge for his mortal self to learn from. With the tools in front of him, he began to work. Fortunately for Augustus, Nott was able to understand the temptation and promised to stay by him and be his anchor. As he has experimented with Vicissitude, Augustus has gained more power and knowledge, despite the skepticism of other residents.

The taste of power has given Augustus a taste of true freedom. He finally has control over his life, despite Reality Storms and the drama that the city draws. This freedom is one Augustus now clings to and will not let go. Not unless it is torn from his cold dead hands. This freedom inspired him to make the call to arms from the city and an end to the secrets surrounding the plant plague. This form of leadership and bravery was something Augustus was not capable before coming to Nautilus.

Teaching Others

With the mentorship from Aang and Monk Gyatso and the change in the way he saw himself, Augustus has finally stepped forward as a mentor himself. He first offered to teach at Scott's Nautilus Academy. While it wasn't Bending training, it was a means for him to pass on his knowledge to others. Being true to himself, he decided to teach Psychology, Statistics, and Sexual Education. Augustus is good at manipulating data, understanding people, and was exposed to sex at a young age it made sense he could share what he learned with others.

The real mentoring began when he agreed to give Brentwood night classes. With Brentwood being so naive to the world and people, it gave Augustus someone he could truly teach. He did his best to keep his cinisism out of the classroom, not wanting to taint Brentwood's view of the world or other people. He wanted to help the gargoyle learn to think for himself and make judgements based on the facts and how he felt about those facts. This has allowed Augustus to explore his own way of thinking while teaching Brentwood the tools he can use to form his own view of the world. Augustus didn't go into teaching Brentwood with an agenda as others did and it showed, creating a bond of respect between the feline and the gargoyle.

Where Augustus in the past would have never offered to teach people these things or even tried to be unbiased with teaching them, being in Nautilus has helped him to realize both of those things are important. He sees it as both a responsibility and something he simply wants to do. No one had to force him to do this. He wanted to reach out to others.

Nott

Of all of the things to change Augustus, Nott has been the most influential force in his life. They began as friends, meeting early on in Augustus' time in Nautilus. They quickly realized they were from different worlds but bonded over being similar in species enough they could relate. They grew closer as Nott opened up some for Augustus and Augustus did the same for Nott. The major change came during the Red String of Fate event where Augustus found himself infatuated with Nott.

The Siamese used his usual charms and tactics to try and manipulate Nott to be with him. Yet it didn't work, again. Augustus was left heart broken when Nott escaped to Helix and the red string vanished from around his finger. He spent the next week wallowing in his heartbreak, yet after the event Nott contacted him. He expected Nott would not want to see him again but instead Nott asked to meet him. Augustus brought food and the two began to talk about the event. In the end, they decided to give it a try. Augustus' attraction for Nott was really awakened by the event but only cemented due to the aftermath.

The two grew closer as they dated. They opened up more and Augustus found he wanted to be like Nott. Despite all of the bad things in Nott's life, he was able to persevere and found something to live for. Augustus aimed to emulate that and find something to live for; the answer was Nott. Augustus even began to see the good in himself that Nott saw in him. He tried to convince Nott he was terrible but the fox wouldn't have any of it. Both of them could see the good in each other while the could only see flaws in themselves. This dynamic is both healthy and unhealthy as the two are becoming rather co-dependant upon the other.

Despite this co-dependency, they still cling to one another and it works. For Augustus, he feels he can possibly be a better person due to Nott. He is striving to become someone worthy of his boyfriend. The early thoughts that the relationship would not last completely left Augustus' mind during the plant plague. He now only sees himself with Nott and will strive to stay with him as long as he can. For eternity, if he can. He already has plans brewing to ask Nott to marry him, despite only being together for a year. He never wants to lose Nott and feels the fox is his one love, the one he never wants to be without.

Nott is the driving force behind almost every other change. Opening up to others, making friends, and stepping forward to help the city. All of it was inspired by Nott. This is how deeply dependant and driven Augustus has become because of his relationship with the fox. To him, there is no one else he would rather be trapped in a city of insanity with.

Only time will tell if this relationship will lead to better improvements or possible missteps and fallbacks in the future.

In Conclusion

Augustus is ready to Ascend because he sees himself as transforming. He no longer sees himself as a terrible person and this lifting cynicism is about himself is changing the way he sees the world. His relationship with Nott drives him to want to be better in every way. He wants to be strong enough to protect Nott as well as the city. He wants to help others learn so he can learn more about himself and be that good person Nott sees in him. He wants to become someone in Nautilus others can look at as an example of change. He will continue to strive for Nott and himself as he moves on in the future.

Augustus is working as a Private Investigator in the city and has a knack for observing people and learning things about that. It's the one skill I figure he needs a permissions post for. So let me know here what he can glean off people by watching them. He won't be able to just observe and know a secret identity, of course. The guy isn't Sherlock but he is decent at looking for small clues and doing research to find those buttons people just don't like being pressed.

Let me know here and we and we can also plot about how he can discover these things ICly and use them as well.

Canon Background: Not much has been discovered or unveiled about Augustus's past in the comics thus far. We know a few things about his past but they are more far and in between factoids than a clear narrative. His real involvement and reveal starts sometime later in the story and the lives of our main characters. What we do know about Augustus's early life is he grew up in the wrong neighbor hood with a family that was far from healthy and whole. His mother and father are drunks and possibly abusive toward him due to statements he makes about only being safe at school. Sometime either in middle school or early in high school, Augustus joined Alejandro's gang of cats and dogs. He seems to be Alejandro's informant and spy for different operations. Sometime during his youth he got close to one of Alejandro's girlfriends who cut his face and left a scar over his left eye and later did the same to Alejandro himself. Her fate so far is unknown.

It is the main characters Freshmen year in High School and Augustus's Junior year that the feline's mission began.

Daisy, no heeding the warnings of her friends, began spending time with Augustus.

Augustus tried to convince her she was mistaken but he told him to leave, and he did.

Doing so, however, wasn't something easy to Augustus to do. He didn't want Lucy seeing the kind of family or conditions he lived in, so he pushed her away, even though she might had been the first one ever to want to go to his home after school.

Though none of her friends know exactly what happened, it was hinted Augustus might and thus gives further evidence that Lucy possibly tried to kill herself but it has not been confirmed.

It bothered him, however she left, in the way she left and was last seen looking at the sky from atop the school like Lucy was in January. What he is doing now in the series is unknown.

Omegafriends Background: Augustus's AU Background starts much like his canon background. He came from a broken home, drunk parents who were not the greatest. It was just before starting middle school, when he was still young, that a wormhole ripped open and dragged the young cat boy into the Earth of Omegafriends. He landed in New York City and was quickly adopted by a gang in the city. He was raised as the sort of mascot of the group and quickly learned the ins and outs of crime. He became the information gatherer and tactician for the gang over the years. Augustus spent years with the gang, until he turned 18 and things went sour.

He fell in love with a girl who happened to be dating the leader of their gang at the time. He expressed his interest and she strung him along until he attempted to kiss her. Appalled that the animal boy would do this, she cut his face, leaving the scar above his left eye. The leader found out and planned to get rid of Augustus, however the young catboy discovered the plans first and decided to deal with them first. His bonds broken with the hero he looked up to and the woman he loved, he formulated a plan. He gathered the gang's assets and one night, gave several anonymous calls to the police. He sold out the gang and with the police raiding all of their safe houses and their own homes, the gang was dismantled in one night.

That was when Augustus took the money and contacts and left to Venture City. He decided then he would never work for someone like that again. He would call the shots in his life and become something greater. What his exact plans are are unknown but they are going to be big. He has been living in Venture City for a few months now and opened his own Private Investigation office to bring in business and as a way to gather information for himself. He has been sucessful in his venture thus far, working for anyone who will pay and using the cases he is given to gather as much information on those in the city (heroes, villains, and important city officials) as possible. What he desires is unknown but you can bet he isn't thinking small.

Personality: Augustus isn't truly evil. The young man is definitely more of a moral gray. Due to his family past and the past with the gang, he has grown into a cynical person with a darker past. Yet he is not completely dark, as mentioned. He has good in him as he does take cases to help people even now. He sees himself as separate from humans as he knows he is from another world and thus give himself a sort of immunity from the usual morality of a usual human. This differs some from his canon personality but not by much. He is rough outside but not completely dark to the core.

During his time on Earth, Augustus has developed more into a mastermind than his canon self. Where he is the lackey tactician in his world, in this AU, he is the mastermind. He grew up without being pressed under Alejandro as well as nurtured by him to know his place. Augustus rebelled and won against the person he once was stuck under and raised up in his own self-image. Now he does see himself as someone important and able to get what he wants. He comes up with massive plans in order to gain the information he wants as he sees it as the best way to gain power. Super villains might have powers but power is nothing compared to the right information. Such as, the knowledge of who a villain is. The same goes for heroes in his mind. They are all one bit of information away from being stripped of all power.

Augustus is a cynical person when it comes to people. Specifically humans. Though the cats, dogs, and other people in his world were not good in his mind, humans he sees as possibly worse due to his experiences. He understands there are good and bad people but in his mind, they are mostly driven by their bad tendencies. He doesn't go so far as to hate them but he does not trust them anymore. After his heart was broken and his trust betrayed, he decided to never trust humans to that extent again. He makes sure to keep people at arms length to protect himself as much as possible. To him, they are going to be as likely to hurt him as he is to hurt them. Of course, he justifies his own hurting of people as they would do the same to him in the same situation.

As stated before, the Siamese has some darker parts to his personality. He enjoys seeing people in emotional stress and turmoil. To him, it is far better than physical pain. He can enjoy that too but to him, there is nothing more fun to watch than someone squirming with a few words and pushes of mental and emotional buttons. He has trained himself well to find these points in people and use them to his advantage. He feels the emotions and mind are a person's almost guaranteed weak point in the armor of themselves. If one can find the right crack, they can break someone. He would rather know the exact point to hurt someone and be ready to use it when it is most convenient or entertaining.

Augustus isn't all about poking buttons, however. He is calculating and patient. He knows rushing won't get him anywhere in life. This is also seen in his canon counterpart though this Augustus takes it to a new level. He will do what he can to watch people, especially heroes and villain. He will go to lengths of setting up crimes to simply sit somewhere nearby and watch. Instead of sitting back and watching people as they naturally are, Augustus will try to set them up or push people into difficult situations to observe how they react and learn more about them. It is his second greatest hobby.

His first is something original to this AU Augustus. The Siamese enjoys collecting old school toys. He has a fascination with toys from the 50s-the 80s in Earth history. This mostly stems from his own lack of a childhood he can call his own. He collects these toys with the money he earns and even accepts them as payment for jobs if someone offers them. He has quite the collection in his office and one can say they are his prized possessions. He started collecting them back in New York and as a child learned to use them as impromptu weapons and even more has incorporated them into how he fights, which will be covered in his powers section. He loses himself to them and it shows part of the vulnerable side he still possesses.

As stated before, Augustus isn't all bad. He goes have a good side deep down. He will care and help for the unfortunate even without asking for something in return. He does this as he himself was one of them once. However he doesn't simply help anyone. Augustus hates helplessness and those who do not attempt to escape it as he did. He only helps those he sees as worthy, people fighting to try and better themselves without success, possibly due to external obstacles or forces at work. He will give money, support, information, and other resources to people like this without asking for anything in return. It is one of the few redeeming qualities he has.

Overall, Augustus is layered. He has a rough shell and most of him is dark inside. He does have good in him however. He falls into a much more gray area than black or white. Because of this, he can navigate between working with heroes and villains alike. He enjoys being able to work both sides and thus gaining the benefits of knowing both sides. He hopes to use this to his advantage one day, as he does with almost everything else he does. In truth, he is selfish. In the end he is seeking to obtain something from the city. What that is, however, is a mystery.

Powers: Augustus is a non-powered individual, however his experience on Earth has taught him how to fight and make him a skilled tactician. He can make plans with little time and is capable of making large and elaborate plans, complete with backups. His watching people allows him to predict what they will do or how they may react and thus plan around their possible movements. He has found this extremely interesting and helpful in the past and continues to do it now.

His fighting skills are focused on the use of a baseball bat he was given when he joined the gang and children's toys. He uses things like marbles and bouncing balls as distractions or projectiles while using the bat as his primary offensive weapon. Emotional jabs will also be used as he fights to try and push his opponents off center so that he is able to level the playing field, especially against a powered person. He can use other toys as well to fight, depending on what they do. Using toys that generate loud noises for distractions is one such example. He will make use of his surroundings and environment as well, trying to best to always keep the upper hand or find a way out of a situation he knows he will lose in a direct confrontation. He doesn't like to engage in a battle he isn't sure to win.

It seems relevant.

Augustus, as described in his app, is extremely gifted at observing and reading people. He is able to do research and just watch people to discover what makes them tick. Finding weak points in people's emotional armor is not a difficult feat for this cat. He is not perfect at it though, and it sometimes takes time but he is still gifted with the ability.

Because of this, I am setting up this permission post. What should Augustus be able to read about your character and how long should it take? Do you want him poking at your character's weak points at all or shall he keep it under his hat? Just a short permission post with just two questions to it. Not too intensive.

Character History: Not much has been discovered or unveiled about Augustus's past in the comics thus far. We know a few things about his past but they are more far and in between factoids than a clear narrative. His real involvement and reveal starts sometime later in the story and the lives of our main characters. Character Personality: Augustus is a layered character. Everything he does is calculated and carefully done. He rushes almost nothing and has a biting wit. He isn't simply the sadist or evil villain he seems to be, however. He has deeper layers more akin to an eighteen year old young man who had grown up as he had.

He is harsh on almost all of those around him isn't against telling people just what they think about him. He pressed and pokes for buttons and when he finds them, he makes sure to abuse them. He gains a certain satisfaction to being the dominant one in any conversation he has. He enjoys being in control and does enjoy hitting the cracks in people's defenses to bring them down and leave them weak and vulnerable. Emotional manipulation, emotional blackmail, and just emotional torment are things he is easily capable of and hardly ever seems to be remorseful of his actions. At least to the faces of others.

The Siamese is a calculating individual. He observes, writes notes on people and things alike, and never does anything without careful consideration. He weighs risk and reward and does his best to only approach people at the most opportune moments. Augustus possibly learned this behavior growing up in a house where both his parents were drunkards and thus had to be careful with everything he did less he anger one or both of them. His skills were sharpened when he joined Alejandro's gang as Alejandro uses him to gather information and other things. Augustus's process is often slow but it is how he works and he sees nothing wrong with it. Augustus most definitely believes in the principle of brains over brawn.

Despite these rougher qualities, Augustus does have a softer side. This is most seen in his relationship with Daisy. He truly did want to be with her and save her from the coming storm that would surround her friends. He feel in love with her and saw things in her that only one other person did. To him, she was perfect, smart, independent, and that she had limitless potential if she could get passed her self-esteem. To him, such potential for greatness was beautiful. He was attracted to just how different she was from the others in the school. She had everything they didn't and he wanted to be with her. He didn't enjoy setting her up to fail with Mike but he was sure it was the right thing to do to get her to come to him. He wanted to show her how to become her real self as he saw her. In truth, that vision of her could have been misguided from his experience with women before then. He wanted a forward, upfront Daisy who was comfortable in her skin and more flirtatious. In the end, he lost her but instead of becoming angry or wanting to hurt her, he accepted it. Because she was happy, he could let her go. He loved her and having felt that love and lost it, it hurt Augustus quite a bit. He could continue living, however.

In truth, part of his pities them but his anger comes first.

He simply wears his anger and disgust on his face but is resigned to leaving it along rather than speaking out. This behavior could also be a product of his home life as well as his time in Alejandro's gang since his boss is not a good person at all.

Yet Augustus does not use any of this as an excuse for his own actions. In his mind, actions are to be judged by themselves. When a person does something bad or wrong, it is bad or wrong. A bad past does not and should not excuse harmful or bad actions in his mind. He doesn't use anything in his life as a crutch and expects others to do the same. He holds himself to the same standard, which creates an interesting dilemma. He knows what he does is wrong yet necessary for survival. As he holds himself accountable, he must feel guilt for what he does yet he continues to do it as necessary. This speaks to an inner guilt complex that is rarely seen or touched on but is still there.

Powers and Abilities: Augustus has no extra-ordinary abilities. Part of this is he is slow to make inferences. He doesn't judge off of one instance or a handful. He takes his time to find out all he can about someone and systematically attempts to map out as much of their personality as possible.

Of course, Augustus reading people will be with mun permission and it will be discussed with the muns about just how much he can read and discover about other characters.

It's funny. Everyone comes from worlds that are extraordinary. Aliens. Monsters. People with magic powers. People who are more than they seem. Royalty. Knights. Heroes. Villains. And yet I keep getting the same weird looks. My world is normal. No superheroes. No super villains. No monsters out of books. Just people, good, bad, and ugly. Nothing really all that special.

[Audio --> Video]

[Sitting in the library is the Siamese cat boy.]

Then why is it everyone is surprised when I tell them my world is filled with cats and dogs like me and not...humans? [He is so tempted to just call you all hairless monkeys. He really is.]

Is it really that surprising to some of you? Especially those from worlds that are, in my opinion, far more mind blowing to believe?

Which I guess raises the question. What is the weirdest or most extraordinary thing in your world?

Third Person: A giant library housed in, the supposed, great tree Yggdrasil. Not that Augustus believe in such a myth or that this tree could possible be the great tree. Sure, it was gigantic but not legendary big. While the size of the tree didn't impress him that much, the library certainly did. The library itself was an impression structure but not as impressive as the selection of books.

It was the books of all shapes, sizes, and on so many different subject matters. Anything would pale in comparison. The Siamese wasted no time int gathering up books on a variety of subjects and moved them to a simple area he had found in the library. It was a corner space with a soft arm chair, a side table with a small lamp, and a coffee table. It was small and quaint. Without any other chairs nearby, he would be less likely to be disturbed. He found books on history, philosophy, and some fiction he had never read before. He turned the page of the Machiavelli classes Il Principe. He had wondered just what Machiavelli said on the matter of rule.

He spent hours in the library reading the books. He found it comforting and insightful. Some of these had been books he would have found in his world, others not so much. It was interesting to read on the histories of worlds that were not his own. Now if only he would link these histories to the people who were here from those worlds. History shapes culture. Culture shapes community. Community shapes families. Families shape people. It wasn't a hard process for the Siamese to grasp. He had seen it clear as day growing up the way he did. There were some constants. Everyone wanted to be seen as a good guy but no one wanted to actually be the good guy. No one just wanted the blame for their selfish actions. That's all it was.

Augustus didn't have many other places to go than this library. Sure, the welcome house was open to him but he hated being there. It felt too much like accepting charity. It was something he was never good at. Handouts felt wrong to him. He had survived as long as he had by fending for himself. Why would he want to take things from people? They would only expect him to pay it back another day. Taking anything from anyone was simply a loan. No one simply gave anything. People were innately selfish. The cats and dogs back home were like that and these humans were the same. They had to be. In some of the history books, that seemed to be the only difference. Cats and dogs in his world, humans in others. Brought up an interesting idea for a science fiction book to explain it, but Augustus didn't really think too much more on it.

He set down another book as he felt his eyes growing tired. The one pain of this place was moving up and down the damn tree. He leaned back in his chair and closed his eyes. Maybe a short nap would give him the energy to get moving. Just a nap was all he needed. Of course, that was how it always started. It wasn't long before he was asleep, dreaming of different worlds and imagining what each of them would be like for a person like him. Too bad it always ended the same way.

Unlike in the books and stories he was reading, there were no happy endings.
